Job Title Material Buyer

Description

Allen Professional Search, London office, is currently recruiting for a Material Buyer for our client, an OEM heavy manufacturer with plants worldwide offering a salary range of 60-64K annually.
Key Job Elements: Buyer, Direct Material /Components
• The successful incumbent will be responsible for material purchasing for a heavy manufacturing environment; mechanical, electrical, electronic materials, etc.
• Develops and maintains reliable suppliers, including: new supplies; negotiates price and terms with suppliers in addition to settlement on rejected or defective material; implement cost reductions on supplier products
• Manage assigned purchase requisitions and issue purchase supply orders with appropriate sources
• Monitor supplier performance
• Responds to changing market price trends and availability to material services
• Makes decisions and/or recommendations having substantial impact on plant operation and performance
• Negotiates settlement on rejected or defective material
• Maintain MRP material master settings in accordance with company guidelines
• Implement cost reductions on supplier products
• Adheres to company and purchasing and accounting policies and procedures
• Coordinates implementation of Engineering changes as they affect purchased material
• Completes special projects as needed

Required Qualifications:
• B.A./B.S degree in business, manufacturing systems, engineering, supply chain management or related field or College Diploma in engineering technology
• 3-5 years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment with specialization in one or all of: mechanical, electrical, electronics
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with a high level of interpersonal skills
• Analytical ability where problems are somewhat complex
• Knowledge of unit Purchasing and Material Department operations
• Ability to read blueprints and understand basic Engineering documents
• Proficient math skills to forecast all material demands
• Must be able to travel as required
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of commodities and materials being purchased
• Proficient use of office software: EXCEL; ERP/MRP systems, SAP
• CPM or CPIM certification
